The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends that young women begin regular gynecology appointments when they become sexually active, if not sooner. For many women, the first time they step foot in an OBGYN clinic is because of a positive pregnancy test. Regardless of when you first come into the OBGYN clinic at Fayetteville Women’s Care, it can be an intimidating experience if you are not sure what to expect.
First, the basics. The sole purpose of an OBGYN clinic is women’s health. An obstetrician is a medical professional who specializes in pregnancy care, for both the woman and the baby. A gynecologist focuses on women’s general reproductive health, as well as other female health issues. OBGYN clinics, like Fayetteville Women’s Care, provide female healthcare services ranging from birth control to postpartum care for new mothers.
At an OBGYN clinic, you can expect medical staff who are highly knowledgeable in women’s health issues and who are dedicated to the health and well being of their patients. In general, any OBGYN clinic you visit should provide the most common medical procedures in women’s health, like pap smears, pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and necessary lab work.
Upon your first visit at Fayetteville Women’s Care, we will ask you to fill out patient paperwork. You will more than likely be seen at this first visit by a registered nurse who will take a detailed medical history from you, and talk to you about what to expect during your course of care at Fayetteville Women’s Care. Our office visits are by appointment only. Most annual or routine visits can be scheduled within a two week timeframe. However, no appointment is necessary for lab work, such as pregnancy tests, or for injections or shots, like the flu shot or birth control shots. If you are coming into our OBGYN clinic for lab work or injections/shots, our hours to do so are Monday through Friday, 8am to 11am, or Monday through Thursday, 1pm to 4pm.
