Dr. Brandt Wood grew up in a small town in New Jersey and has a varied background in the medical field. He was the youngest Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the state of New Jersey and was a paramedic for several years during high school. After graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in zoology, he attended Georgetown University for a masters program. He spent a few years at the National Institutes of Health, assisting with surgical research on artificial heart valves.

His mother jokes that he knew what he wanted to do and who he wanted to marry by the time he was six years old. She says, in kindergarten he helped save a dog that was hit by a car and then told her he wanted to be a doctor (although he started out wanting to be a veterinarian), and in first grade when he tackled and kissed his childhood sweetheart, Julie, he knew whom he would marry. He and Julie have been married for 18 years. They have two children, Madeline and Garrett.

He joined Fayetteville Woman’s Care in 2004 because he felt he had found a practice of ethical doctors who believe in continued learning and keeping up with cutting-edge technology.

Some patients are not familiar with “Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine”, the D.O. behind Dr. Wood’s name. Osteopathic doctors can enter any field of medicine, just like an M.D. (medical doctor). They can prescribe drugs, conduct surgeries and use every technology available to diagnose a patient’s disease or injury and are able to practice in all 50 states. They also have additional training in musculo-skeletal manipulation and are taught a holistic approach to treating patients. That is, they are trained in how to listen to the patient, hear what outside influences might be affecting him or her and make a diagnosis based on all possible factors. DOs promote a healthy lifestyle combined with prevention.

Dr. Wood takes a caring, compassionate and understanding approach to his patient care. He often tells his patients to “De-stress and find time for yourself.”
